A damaged windshield is one of the most common insurance claims in Slovakia. If you have comprehensive insurance, the repair or replacement may be partially or fully covered by the insurer. However, many drivers do not know how to proceed and unnecessarily pay out of their own pocket. At AUTOSKLO H&D, we handle the entire insurance claim for you - from reporting through to the actual repair. Here is a complete guide.
What type of insurance covers glass damage?
In Slovakia, there are two main types of motor vehicle insurance, and each covers glass damage differently:
Compulsory third-party liability insurance (PZP)
PZP (so-called "compulsory insurance") covers damage that you cause to others. If someone damages your glass (e.g. with a stone from their car), the costs should be covered by their PZP. In practice, however, it is difficult to prove who caused the damage, so PZP is rarely used for own glass repair.
Comprehensive insurance (KASKO)
Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your vehicle including glass damage. This is the type of insurance that will actually help you. Most comprehensive insurance policies in Slovakia include:
- Free glass repair - with no deductible, no increase in future premiums
- Glass replacement - usually with a deductible (5 - 10% of the cost, or a fixed amount)
- Some policies have special glass add-on insurance, where even replacement is without deductible
Important tip
If you have comprehensive insurance, always first check whether you have glass add-on coverage. Many drivers have it in their policy but do not know about it. With glass add-on insurance, even a complete windshield replacement is often free - with no deductible.
Which insurance companies do we cooperate with?

Most frequently asked questions about auto glass insurance
Will my premium increase after a glass insurance claim?
For repair, the premium usually does not increase - insurers treat repair as routine maintenance. For replacement, it depends on the specific insurer and policy, but most insurers in Slovakia consider glass a special category and do not increase the premium for one claim event per year.
What if I do not have comprehensive insurance?
If you do not have comprehensive insurance, you pay for the repair or replacement yourself. Even in that case, it is worth contacting us - our prices are competitive and repair is always cheaper than a later full glass replacement.
How long does the insurance claim process take?
With our contracted insurers, the process is expedited. We can usually give you an appointment within 2 - 3 working days of first contact. In urgent cases, even sooner.
What if the damage was caused by another vehicle?
If you know who caused the damage (e.g. a stone from a specific car in traffic), you can claim the damage from their third-party liability insurance. We will help you with the documentation. In practice, however, it is simpler to use your own comprehensive insurance.
